The British government is set to progress with using the total value of frozen Russian assets to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would escalate tension on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the decision would be executed in close cooperation with the United States.

United Kingdom penalties have immobilized more than ÂŁ25bn of Russia's funds since Moscow began its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, until now, resources allocated to Ukraine using Russian holdings had only been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their goal to advance efforts toward using the full value of the seized Russia's state assets to halt hostilities.

He added that further measures over the next period would apply more pressure on Moscow.

This declaration is subsequent to European Union representatives gathered in Copenhagen previously to debate using immobilized Russian holdings for a €140bn financial aid to Ukraine.

Recently, American leader Donald Trump urged international partners to confiscate or otherwise use frozen Russian holdings, as reported by news outlets.

The total of immobilized Russia's assets in the European Union is assessed to be nearly €211bn.

President Zelensky urges Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl programme

Russia executed widespread bombardments all over the Ukrainian territory on Friday, leading to power cuts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, the city, and several other zones.

A pair of individuals were fatally injured and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the attack, Ukrainian officials stated.

In a post on X after the attack, Zelensky commented that the cynical and calculated attack aimed at non-military and power facilities.

"The necessity is not empty words but firm measures - from the America, EU, and the G7 - in providing defense mechanisms and enforcing sanctions," he stated.

"Every sanction decision diminishes the Russian war effort," Zelensky wrote, in a separate post.

Additionally that day, Zelensky told media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to join the weapons procurement program, under which Nato countries buy arms from the America to donate to Ukraine.

While praising the United Kingdom's consistent assistance for Kyiv, he remarked it should indicate firmly that it would engage in the system, as well as enforce further sanctions on Moscow.
