The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
