The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist one after another. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity remaining could be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
