NY Launches Portal for Public to Report ICE Videos Following Arrests of Four US Citizens

The state attorney general has rolled out a recent digital platform asking residents to submit images and footage of federal immigration enforcement around New York. This action follows a shortly after a significant immigration operation rattled NYC's Chinatown, triggering large-scale protests.

American Citizens Held During ICE Operation

A congressional representative disclosed during a news conference that four US citizens were detained and kept for "about 24 hours" following the enforcement action. Protests occurred in New York on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"All New York residents is entitled to reside free from terror," state officials declared in a announcement.

"If you witnessed and recorded federal operations yesterday, I encourage you to share that footage with us. We are dedicated to reviewing these submissions and investigating any wrongdoings."

Portal Features

The form provides spaces to submit photos and videos of the incident, plus a field to note where it occurred. Prior to sending, users must check a box that acknowledges that "the attorney general could utilize any materials, images, or footage in a public document, such as in a legal proceeding or public report."

Information about the Chinatown Raid

The enforcement action, which onlookers say included more than 50 ICE personnel, took place in a popular area of Manhattan where counterfeit purses, items, goods and additional items are commonly traded widely – often to visitors.

Recordings of Tuesday's raid show multiple masked and armed officers restraining and arresting a person, and shoving away witnesses. Throngs of New Yorkers followed the officers through the streets. An armored truck was noticed moving along the city streets.

Political Response

At a Wednesday press conference featuring the immigrant advocacy group, Representative Goldman, a lawmaker, said that four American citizens were arrested by immigration for almost a full day and that there were "no conditions where US citizens should be arrested for unjustly." He said the persons were let go on Wednesday with no charges filed.

"The intent is obvious here. It is not to take criminals off the street," Goldman remarked. "This constitutes a armed campaign to incite tension. It is merely a justification to generate turmoil for this administration to utilize the military to halt conflict that they have created."

Extensive Outcry

Outrage over the ICE raid quickly spread – each of the NYC mayor hopefuls denounced the incident, along with Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Yet again, the current administration chooses oppressive displays that generate terror, rather than security. It must stop," a contender wrote.

The city's community groups voiced concern also.

"ICE descended on Manhattan's Chinatown with armored transports, hooded officers and riot gear to go after street vendors trying to make a living. This raid had no relation to public safety and was entirely about frightening communities and neighborhoods," stated the president of a rights organization.

Official Guidelines

Official guidelines forbids the detention of US citizens and the organization has claimed it will not arrest or detain American nationals. Yet, investigative journalism has revealed that over 170 citizens have been taken illegally by federal agents during the period of the present government.

Current Situation

Enforcement actions have been cropping up increasingly in NY and nationwide lately.

A mid-October raid in central NYC was the initial documented operation on an refuge facility of the existing leadership. Demonstrations targeting ICE are ubiquitous along with claims of aggression and cruel conditions.

Most recently, a document provided by advocacy organizations claimed inadequate care of women with child in detention centers.
