Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Aims to Fix the Anime's Major Issue
JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an brand-new movie. Instead, the recent film from the Jujutsu Kaisen fantasy saga serves as a collection of the show's sophomore season stitched together with the first two episodes of its third season, which launches the Culling Games arc from the source material. This establishes Execution, which recently received a fresh preview, the earliest way to see the start of the upcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The movie premieres in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.
The Culling Games Arc
In the Culling Games plot, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is tasked by sorcery authorities to execute his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight unfolds for the first time on the big screen, and if the animation team at the studio have something as special as episodes 40 and 41 waiting in the wings for fans this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the present that we've been waiting for.
The Thunderclap Issue
"Thunderclap episodes" from season two is frequently praised as among the best moments in animated series lore, despite all the controversy in 2023 when the series first premiered. It was stated that the artists were facing crunch conditions to the degree, and the broadcast edition that aired at the time was unfinished and reportedly not what the animators first envisioned.
The Intense Confrontation
The scene features a long-awaited battle between two elite magic wielders, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes experimental animation, excellent direction, and dynamic fight choreography. A later Blu-ray release gave the animators a chance to include extra footage to expand the fight. So it appeared likely Execution could improve the battle even more. However, looking at the recent teaser, it's unclear if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a letdown if it was not, because a scene of that magnitude has to be seen on the cinema screen with the finest quality available.
The Second Season's Triumph
The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become 2024's anime of the year, and when the two-part finale were released back to back, it was the topic of conversation for weeks in the anime community. Audiences had heard of the production challenges, which made them admire what they witnessed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the Blu-ray, launched in mid-March, would include new footage to the fight or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were thrilled to see exactly that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and revised visual style.
The Film's Potential
But the home video can only touch up what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the film has the chance to do the sequence justice with further changes and freshly created footage.
A Masterpiece
Currently, these episodes serve as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by Mappa, especially considering the debate they faced at the time. It's captured the interest of viewers all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of next year. If the production company wants to begin the year strongly, showcase the series' best moment once again in movie houses with the finest version we've witnessed to date.
