Gavin Newsom States He Is Weighing a Presidential Campaign for 2028
Gavin Newsom, a leading Democratic figure, has revealed that he will determine whether to seek the White House in 2028 once the 2026 midterm elections are over.
"Yes, I would be lying if I denied it," the governor remarked when questioned about contemplating a presidential run after the 2026 ballots. "That wouldn't be honest. And I won't do that."
The governor's current term as California's leader wraps up in January 2027, and he cannot run again. However, he noted that any determination is a long way off.
"It's up to destiny," he added.

Controversy Over Funds

"I intend to cut $160 million from the state," Duffy said, following a this week's tragic collision in the state involving an undocumented commercial driver that caused loss of life and injured individuals.
His administration highlighted that the federal government had approved the worker's status on several occasions, which allowed him to obtain a trucking license under federal law.

Strong Response from the Team
"Ex-reality TV personality, now transportation chief, fails to grasp national statutes," the governor's team retorted in a recent comment responding to the secretary's comments. "In the meantime, unlike this clown, we focus on reality: The state's truck drivers had a fatal crash rate significantly lower than the countrywide rate. Texas – the only state with a larger number of CDL holders – has a rate markedly elevated than California. Statistics are clear. The Trump administration does."
Voter Sentiment and Campaign Considerations
A this month's study showed that 72% of Democrats and almost half of voters believed that Newsom ought to campaign for president in the next election cycle. In recent years, public support for the governor has risen to an typical level of about one-third from approximately 30%, while his disapproval has decreased from an average of previous highs to current figures.
In previous months, the governor commented while on a trip several battleground states that he had "no clue" about his plans for 2028.
He noted his personal struggles, including being identified as dyslexic at the age of five.
"The idea that a individual who got 960 on his SAT, who has ongoing difficulties with text, who was typically not at the front – that such a possibility is discussed is, by itself, extraordinary," he stated. "Who the hell knows? I am eager to see who emerges in the next election and who meets that moment. And that's the question for the U.S. citizens."
