Ex- Australian Test Cricketer Damien Martyn Admitted to Hospital and in Medically Induced Coma After Bacterial Meningitis Diagnosed.
The ex-Aussie cricket star Damien Martyn has been admitted to hospital and placed in an induced coma after being diagnosed with meningitis.
Serious Health Battle Revealed
The 54-year-old “is in for the fight of his life”, according to ex-AFL star Brad Hardie, who disclosed Martyn’s condition this week.
“We hope he can pull through because it’s extremely grave,” stated Hardie.
His condition remains serious after becoming unwell on Boxing Day and being taken to a hospital in Queensland, as per family sources.

Meningitis is swelling of the protective layers that cover the brain and spinal cord.
An Illustrious Cricket Career
Martyn is considered one of Australia’s most talented batters, playing 67 Tests and amassing 4,406 Test runs averaging 46.37 from 1992 and 2006.
His not out 88 in the 2003 World Cup final – with a broken finger – was instrumental in Australia's win over India.
He announced a shock retirement in the middle of the 2005-06 Ashes series in England following difficulties in the opening two Tests.

Ex-colleague Darren Lehmann urged Martyn to “keep strong” online, as the cricket world began to react well wishes.
