Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
