2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Response
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct direction.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete content from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our players.
The trust in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving him next week. We are all eager to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
David
Experience of the New Leader
The appointee currently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Information and Concept
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. Then, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description reads. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that shift every match. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."
The game lacks an official debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as creation progresses.
